    • Area Child Protection Committee. The ACPC is an inter-agency forum bringing together representatives of the agencies responsible for helping to protect children fron abuse and neglect.

    • An admissions appeal panel is a group of people who decide whether a child that has already been turned down for a school by the admissions authority should be given a place. There are strict rules about who should be on the panel-no member of the panel can be a governor of the school or a local councillor.

    • Annual Performance Assessment. A local authority Annual Performance Asseesment (APA) takes place each year.

      It makes judgements about: The council's children's services and the specific contributions they make to improving outcomes for children and young people. The council's capacity to further improve these services.

      A letter from OFSTED notes strengths, areas for improvement and any progres evident in the previous 12 months. It indicates where the work of the council has made a measurable difference, where such work has had little impact or where further development is required.
