ABC Support Group - disability support group
This is a group for children under ten with all types of disabilities. All family members are welcome too, including brothers and sisters.
ABC Plus Group
Group for High School age children with all types of disabilities. Parents/Carers are welcome to stay, unfortunately siblings are not allowed.
Ability Net
This is an organisation that helps disabled people that need or want computers. It gives free info and advice, and can supply people with special computers that have been adapted to help them.
Action for Sick Children
This is somewhere that parents/carers can get help and support if their children are in hospital, or have just come out. It also helps parents whose children are being looked after in the community.

You can drop into an Information and Advice Centre for help with issues like benefits, rent, council tax and education. Centres in Adswood and Bridgehall, Bramhall, Bredbury, Brinnington, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Hazel Grove, Heald Green, Offerton and Reddish.
Advisory Centre for Education (ACE)
The ACE is a charity that gives parents/carers information, support and legal advice on anything to do with their children's education. If you've been excluded from school, or if you're being bullied, your parents could get help here with what to do next.
A text service for parents to get advice is available for those who do not feel comfortable calling an advice line, to gettext advice 'Text' the keyword ASKACE to 68808 and follow the instructions for free booklets, tips and advice tailored to your questions.
African AIDS Helpline
All calls to this helpline are free and confidential, and you can speak to someone in English, French, Portuguese, Luganda, Swahili or Shona.
A new support group called 'ARISE' offers 'face to face' confidentail counselling for people affected or infected by AIDS.
African Caribbean Community Association (ACCA)
ACCA is a voluntary organisation working for the benefit of African and Caribbean people's prosperity, development, arts, culture, social, employment, education and welfare needs in Stockport.
They provide a support network and promote and advocate for the benefit of the African and Caribbean community living and working in Stockport.
They also work with organisations that support Senior Citizens and young people of the community.

Al-Anon Family Groups UK & Eire (AFG)
Alateen is part of Al-Anon, and is for young people whose lives have been affected by someone else's drinking. If someone you love has a problem with alcohol, Alateen can give you info and advice, and put you in touch with your local support group.
Albert Kennedy Trust
This charity helps gay young people who are homeless or living somewhere that could be dangerous for them. If you identify as gay, lesbian or bisexual, it could help you find a foster home, a supported home or a mentor, depending on your age.
Alcohol and Drug Abstinence Services (ADAS)
This is a service for adults who are addicted to drugs or alcohol and who want to learn to live without them. The person comes in every day for 8-12 weeks for treatment and workshops, and there are also a few beds for people who are homeless.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share the same goal of wanting to get sober and stay sober, and of wanting to help other people to do the same. There are meetings across Stockport - call the Manchester helpline for more info.
Alder Centre
The Alder Centre gives support and counselling to anyone who is affected by a child dying, from a miscarriage to the death of a child who was grown up. You may have to wait 3-4 weeks for your first appointment.
All Together Active (A2A)
All Together Active offers support to families through 1-2-1 workshops and fun physical activity sessions. Each family is assigned their very own A2A Trainer who supports each participating family to be as healthy, happy and active as possible.
The scheme is available to 7-11 year olds who will need to attend sessions with at least one parent/carer once a week for 12 weeks, and once a month thereafter.
Up to 24 new places are available on A2A every 12 weeks and as part of the recruitment process, we will be hosting an Information Evening for people interested in finding out more about the scheme.

Anchors Away - Children's Indoor Play Centre ( Previously Whale Around )
A perfect place to let the kids exercise through play whilst you can join in the fun or relax with a cup of tea.

Anorexia and Bulimia Care (ABC)
This is a Christian organisation that helps people who suffer from eating disorders. They can give you advice and support by phone, email or post, and will try to put you in touch with local support groups.
Antenatal Results and Choices (ARC)
This service supports parents that are making decisions about having tests during the mother's pregnancy. It also supports them through the whole process, and gives them help and advice if the tests show that there are any problems with the baby.

Assist UK - Practical Solutions for Independence
Assist UK leads a UK wide network of locally-situated Disabled Living Centres and give advice on independent living equipment.
They also provide valuable information relating to access, design and equipment for daily living which can be useful to carers, older people and healthcare workers, students and manufacturers.
Association for Children's Palliative Care (ACT)
ACT has lots of info for families and professionals who are concerned about a child who is seriously or terminally ill. Topics include specific conditions, special schools, holidays, financial assistance, help when a child has died, and support groups.
Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (ASBAH)
This organisation supports individuals, parents, carers and families who are affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus. It offers information, advice, practical help and a home-visiting service.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
This charity helps people who are affected by ADHD. It can help you if you have the disorder, or if someone in your family does. You and your family can get all the info on the latest research, and get put in touch with support groups.

Aukids Magazine is a positive parenting magazine aimed at parents of young children with Autism Spectrum condition.
Autistic Society for Greater Manchester (ASGMA)
Provides support, information and services to people with an autistic spectrum disorder and their families. Runs a project called Aspirations which supports young people (10-25 year olds) with Asperger Syndrome and provides a range of social and leisure activities.
